New research in India has shown the potential of papaya leaf for its effect on TB.

“…By using alamar blue dye assay and in-vitro bioassay based on inactivation of viability by a procedure similar to neutralization test were used to study the inhibition of Mycobacterium tuberculosis which shows anti-tb activity against clinical strains of sensitive and drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (pyrazinamide, streptomycin, ciprofloxacin). The present results are possibly one of the first few investigations showing a clear indication of the potent anti-tubercular effect of carica papaya.”

Nine Dengue Patients Observed Recovered With Papaya Leaf

A test of the effect of papaya leaf on nine patients with Dengue Fever was published in India last Spring:

“In the present study we found the therapeutic potential of papaya leaf extract (PLE) in curing dengue infection by increasing platelet and WBC counts respectively. Ultrasonographic findings, blood reports, statistical analysis and patient’s recovery from dengue infection further supported the culinary effect of papaya leaf extract (PLE) in dengue patients. The nontoxic nature of PLE also supports its use as natural herbal remedy for dengue infection. An earlier study categorized Carica papaya leaf as non toxic (LD50 >15g per Kg body weight) (Kardono et al., 2003).”

Papaya Leaf May Slow Development of Atherosclerosis

Scientists at Mexican Universities in Villahermosa and Comalcalco have discovered that papaya leaf reduces the build-up of fats in the blood. Given this function, papaya leaf may be able to assist in slowing development of atherosclerosis.
